Preparing for Vinyl
Flooring Installation

New vinyl flooring can transform your space, but proper preparation is key to a smooth, successful installation. Here’s what to know before, during, and after your installation day.

Before Installation

To keep your project on schedule, be sure to:

Remove all furniture, rugs, electronics, and wall décor from the rooms receiving new flooring.

Detach any doors that may need trimming to clear the new floor height.

Many vinyl floors can be installed over an existing flooring type, so your current floors may not need to be removed and disposed of.

Complete any painting or wall touch-ups ahead of time.

Ensure your subfloor is clean, smooth, and properly prepped for installation.

Installation Day Tips

When your installers arrive:

Be available to answer any questions or give access as needed.

Set aside a space for installers to stage materials and safely cut planks.

Keep pets and children away from the work area for safety.

After Installation

Once your new floors are in place:

Wait the specified time before walking on the new vinyl floors & returning items to the rooms. Many floating floors are ready for light foot traffic immediately!

Use felt pads under furniture to prevent scuffs or dents.

Lift furniture when moving—never drag it.
