Preparing for
Hardwood Flooring Installation

You will adore how your new wood floors look and feel in your home, and you can take many valuable considerations to ensure that your installation process is as seamless as possible. When you are prepared before, during, and after your new hardwood installation, you will experience minimal displacement in the home and enjoy fantastic, finished results.

Take the following considerations before your hardwood installation day to make sure you are on schedule:

  • Remove all furniture, items, electronics, and wall hangings from the rooms and closets receiving new hardwood.
  • Remove the doors as you may need to shave them down if the new hardwood height restricts full range of swinging motion.
  • Since wood planks can't be installed over an existing flooring type, the current floors need to be removed and disposed of beforehand.
  • Complete all painting and touch-ups in the rooms and closets before installation.
  • Hardwood requires a completely smooth subfloor for installation. Once your subfloor is professionally assessed and all needed repairs are made, you are ready!
  • Bring the new planks into the rooms to acclimate to household conditions for at least 48 hours before installation.

When your hardwood installation day arrives, make sure that you are home to:

  • Answer questions for your hardwood installation crew.
  • Designate an area for your crew to keep installation tools, store boxes of hardwood, and saw planks safely as needed.
  • Keep kids and pets away from the installation and worker’s area.

After your new hardwood installation is complete, it’s important to:

  • Wait the specified time before walking on the new wood floors & returning items to the rooms.
  • Return furniture by lifting or using equipment with rollers to avoid scratching the floors.
  • Use felt protectors under heavy furniture to reduce impact.
  • Establish the recommended ventilation to offset the smells of any adhesives.
