Carpet Care & Maintenance
for Florida Homeowners
We all know that it can rain at a moment’s notice in Florida, and moisture is extremely problematic for soft carpet. Keep mats by all entrances for scraping footwear and use racks by doors for footwear removal during rainy or moist weather. The goal is to minimize the amount of dirt, debris, mud, moisture, and pet dander that reaches the carpet in your home.
Removing Dirt & Debris from Carpet
The number one key to keeping your carpet pristine is removing dirt and debris effectively to prevent a dull appearance and prevent abrasion to the carpet surface. To achieve this goal, vacuum as frequently as possible with a suitable model for your carpet construction.
Life With Pets on Carpet
Keep your pet’s nails trimmed to prevent snags to your carpet fibers. Brushing pets regularly will also reduce the amount of hair and dander on the carpet surface. Also, make sure that your pets are house-trained before allowing them to spend time on your carpet.
Treating Spills & Stains on Carpet
It’s very important to treat spills as soon as they occur to prevent moisture from seeping through and permanent stains from forming:
- Gently lift any solid material with a spoon and paper towels.
- Begin blotting the spill with a dry, clean cloth and warm water, starting from the perimeter of the spill and working towards the center. Repeat this step if necessary.
- Use a gentle carpet-specific cleaner to spot treat as needed.
- We recommend at least 1-2 professional carpet cleanings annually to remove any residual spill or lingering odors.
