Area Rug Care & Maintenance
for Florida Homeowners

We all know that it can rain at a moment’s notice in Florida, and moisture is problematic for area rugs. Keep mats by all entrances for scraping footwear and use racks by doors for footwear removal during rainy weather. The goal is to minimize the amount of dirt, debris, mud, moisture, and pet dander that reaches the area rugs in your home. You can explore area rugs that are machine-washable so that they are incredibly easy to care for!

Removing Dirt & Debris from Area Rugs
The number one key to keeping your area rugs pristine is removing dirt and debris to prevent a dull appearance and prevent abrasion to the rug surface. To achieve this goal, vacuum as frequently as possible with a suitable model for your rug construction. If your rugs can't be vacuumed, take them outside and shake loose as many particles as possible.

Life With Pets on Area Rugs
Keep your pet’s nails trimmed to prevent snags to your rug fibers. Brushing pets regularly will also reduce the amount of hair and dander on the rug surfaces. Also, make sure that your pets are house-trained before allowing them to spend time on your area rugs.

Treating Spills & Stains on Carpet
It’s extremely important to treat spills as soon as they occur on your area rugs to prevent mildew growth and permanent stains from forming:

  • Gently lift any solid material from the spill with a spoon and paper towels.
  • Begin blotting the spill with a dry, clean cloth and warm water, starting from the perimeter of the spill and working towards the center. Repeat this step if necessary.
  • Use a gentle carpet-specific cleaner to spot treat as needed.
  • We recommend at least one professional rug cleaning annually to remove any residual spill or lingering odors.
